What kinds of materials
are typically joined together?
Joining a permanent adhesive label stock together with a bond
sheet is the most common type of Joined-Web product. Although,
we can join together a wide variety of products including tags,
Tyvek®, Kimdura® etc. It is also possible
to join similar materials such as two different types of labels
stocks.
Are Joined-Web products laser
compatible?
Yes, if your cut sheet laser printer pulls from the short edge,
this product is a proven winner. In fact, the pharmacy market
makes extensive use of this type of product for a combination
prescription label, receipt and counseling form. Also, Lexmark
asks that converters pass certain criteria to be put on their
approved converter list at the request of their large pharmacy
chain customers. Ward/Kraft is one of the Lexmark approved converters.
Note: This product can also be run through continuous laser
printers.
Can copy be printed on the
back of this product?
Yes, on the back of the paper side as well as the liner of the
label side. This product can be printed in up to 6 colors.
What is the difference between
dual web, twin-web and joined-web?
There is no difference between these products; these are simply
different names from different manufacturers for the same type
of product.
Can more than two webs be
joined?
Under some circumstances, we can produce a "tri-web" which consists
of three different materials or may be two different materials
with a combination of paper, label stock and paper. Please consult
with your customer service representative for more specifics and
to discuss the requirements of your application.
How much area should be allowed
for the overlap of the form and the label?
It is best to allow at least 3/8" when designing a new joined-web
form. Approximately .25" is needed for the actual gluing while
another 1/8" to the die cut label assure consistency of the
die cutting process.
How are the materials joined?
In a typical construction, the backside of the label liner is
glued to the front of the form material. Note: It is not possible
to glue the form paper to the face of the silicone liner on a
label. We do have a variety of other form/label combinations available.
Please call your customer service representative to discuss which
product is the best fit for your application.
Why would a person choose
a joined-web product over an integrated product?
There are a couple of reasons why a joined-web product may be
preferable to an integrated form. In most instances because of
the unique one pass construction of the joined-web product it
is generally less expensive than a similar integrated product.
Also, a wider variety of face stocks and adhesives are available
for joined-web products.
Are there any quantities
where a joined-web is not a good option?
On small quantities from 1M up to 10M or so, it may be less expensive
to simply run a full sheet of label stock. Your customer service
representative can help you determine the most cost competitive
product for your application and or quote several options letting
you choose based on the advantages each product offers.
Would you recommend the
joined-web product for cut sheet laser printers pulling from the
11" edge?
If your printer feeds from the 11" side of the sheet, Ward/Kraft
would recommend testing our Integrated or uniweb products. Call
for more information or samples.
